Clinical Background

Kathryn Nielsen, whom we affectionately call “Katy,” is a Virginia native, but in 2016 moved to Idaho Falls with her family from Kentucky. Katy has a broad mix of experience both as a registered nurse and as a family nurse practitioner.

Katy has worked in both hospital and private practice settings. She has extensive experience as an RN with intensive care patients. She worked in the adult ICU at Clark Memorial Hospital in Clarksville, Indiana for about 2 years. Subsequently, Katy worked with infants at Kosair Children’s Hospital (NICU) in Louisville, Kentucky for over 4 years.

As a family nurse practitioner, Katy has worked locally since 2016 in both primary and psych care. Joining Rocky Mountain Diabetes Center in September of 2019, Katy brings her unique experience to Rocky Mountain Clinical Research as a Sub-investigator.

Personal Background

Katy and her husband, a local clinical psychologist, have two amazing children that they adore. They love to spend time together traveling and horseback riding.
